I'm having problems with an XBox 360 update?

Alright so I bought FEAR 3 last week and I put it in the XBox today (un-opend) and it said I needed to update the system to play it so I did but it cant read the disc or something and it changed the layout of the xbox dashboardand it takes longer to load games etc now, what the hell happend??? Do I need a newer xbox to play the new FEAR game or something?
