What does this mean when a guy says this?

Ok so ive been dating this guy off and on for the past three years. recently ive been really sick... so sick that I had to b hospitalized. he knew about ur and he didn't even bother to check up on me. two days went by and I ddecided to ask him y he hadnt even bothered to call and he said... well ive been busy and besides we dont have to talk everyday... wen he said this I just stopped talking to him and i still havent said a word to him. what do u think he meant by his statement and do u think im overreacting?
